What To Include In Your New Product

If you’ve picked a market and you have an idea for a new product you then need to come up with some good ideas on what to include in your new product.  The easiest way that I’ve discovered for doing this is to simply…

Write a list of everything you want to share in your new product.

That’s right, just write down everything you want to share in your product.  I mean just start rambling on paper (or your computer).  Everything you can think of that relates to the subject of your product.  Just a list of “ideas” you want to share.

Don’t worry about relevance or whether or not you’ll even use all of these ideas.  Just get them down.

Jot down as many of these as you can…

  • Ideas
  • Notes
  • Lists
  • Questions
  • Reminders
  • Personal reflections
  • Thoughts
  • Things-To-Do
  • Checklists
  • Details
  • Steps
  • Facts
  • Reasons
  • Comparisons
  • Contrasts
  • Statistics
  • Quotes
  • Illustrations / Stories

Don’t worry about whether or not your ideas make sense.  Don’t worry about how well your ideas are written.  Don’t worry if your ideas fit with anything else.  Just write down everything you can possibly think of concerning the topic of your product that you think you might like to include.

By doing this it will get your new product off to a great start.  And it’s starting that many people seem to have the hardest time with when it comes to creating a new product.

7 Product Creation Models

When you’re going to create a new product you have a number of different options in terms of layout.  To help you decide which one is best for your current project here’s a list of 7 of the product creation models you can use.

1. How-To Tutorial

This list begins with the classic “how-to” tutorial.  This style of product is organized in a systematic, step-by-step approach to accomplishing a task.  The steps are most commonly organized in chronological order.  (I.E.  Step One is…, Step Two is…, etc.).  These are generally known as “systems”, “formulas”, “checklists” or “blueprints”.

A few examples include –

1)   How to Design a Web Page in 5 Easy Steps

2)   How to Lose 12 Pounds in 12 Days

3)   How to Meet The Woman Of Your Dreams In A Week

Everyone wants to learn how to do something.  That’s why this type of product is so popular and it’s normally the best place to start when creating any new product.

Interview2. Interview

People have created full and very high priced products that have consisted of nothing more than interviews with prominent people.

Reasons why experts would do this for you include:  free publicity for their website or business, rights to the completed report/interview or paid compensation.

This is also a very good way to get in with some big players in your industry. So even if this isn’t the main aspect of your new product it should probably make up some component of it.

3. Shortcuts

Who among us wouldn’t like to take shortcuts (assuming they don’t have drawbacks) to achieve a desired result faster, easier or better?  The short answer is:  no one.  With this kind of product you would focus on ways to save time or effort in accomplishing a specific task without sacrificing any benefits or quality.

Some examples are:

  • 17 Money-Saving Shortcuts For Buying A New Home
  • 10 Shortcuts To Mastering Your Golf Game
  • 7 Shortcuts For Planning The Perfect Wedding

4. Time Frame

With this kind of product you would focus most of your “positioning” on the TIME FRAME in which the task can be completed.  Everything would be structured towards seeing results within a specific period of time; that would be the selling point.  More important than getting results is knowing how long it’s going to take to get those results (assuming it’s not long! :-)).

Some examples are:

  • How To Make Money Online In 10 Days Or Less
  • The 7-Day Weight Loss Plan
  • How To Sell Your House In 2 Weeks Or Less

5. Planner

This type of product is very, very structured.  It has daily “to do” tasks to help people to reach a goal.

Some of my most popular products have been “planners”.  For our purposes, a “planner” is simply a set of activities arranged in a daily schedule as a sort of checklist to work through. Why do people love them?  Because it allows them to stay on track.  They see a set of action steps to complete for Monday, then Tuesday, then Wednesday and so forth. Most people find it much easier to actually do something when it’s arranged in this kind of order.

Some examples are:

  • 21 Days To Fix A Slice
  • The 4-Week Wedding Planner And Organizer
  • 27 Days To Internet Marketing Success

6. Faster And Easier

Another kind of product is what I’ve labeled “faster and easier”.  The idea here is to position your product as a resource that reveals information to enable the reader to accomplish some task faster and/or easier than they were previously able to do so .

Some examples are:

  • 7 Ways To Pay Off Your Mortgage 10 Years Faster
  • How To Lose Weight Faster Than Recommended – Safely
  • The Easiest Way To Get Traffic To Your Web Site

7. Barriers And Mistakes

With virtually any pursuit in life there are potential pitfalls and common blunders associated with that pursuit.  The old adage is, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” and there is some truth to that.  A properly positioned product highlighting barriers and mistakes (and how to avoid them!) would be another great option for you to consider.

Some examples are:

  • 7 Common Mistakes Homebuyers Make … And How To Avoid Them
  • The 7 Hidden Barriers To Weight Loss No One Told You About
  • 9 Stupid Things People Do When Trying To Fix Their Finances

So that’s seven different types of products you can create.  You just need to pick one and create it.  However, I firmly believe that you need to write your sales letter at the same time as creating a product because they should both be intertwined.

Here’s The Quickest Way To Create A New Product

The quickest and easiest way to create a new product is to buy private label rights to an existing product.  If you’re not aware of what private label rights is, it simply means that when you buy a PLR (short for private label rights) product you get the rights to do what you like with that product.

Private Label Right

Most PLR Is Rubbish

You can stamp your name on it, you can edit it, rebrand it etc.

But there’s a big problem with MOST private label rights products, and that is that they are rubbish.

So if you want to go this route when creating a new product then you may have to go through a bit of rubbish to get to some gold.  What you can do however is get PLR products from multiple different sources and cut and paste the good bits into one document.

After this you can edit the document to make it better and look original. If you are adverse to writing you can simply hire out the task of improving the content to an outsource worker, like on eLance or Guru.com.

Sometimes you can get really lucky and find great products that need very little editing.  Always keep a lookout for great private label right products and grab them if you can.  You never know when you’ll need the content.

So in summary, when starting to create a new product look to see if there is PLR to a product similar to what you want to create.  Just search PLR and then your market name.  Or put in private label rights and then your market name e.g. private label rights fishing.
